Oh, this is great news
We are destined to either 1) pay rent forever or 2) buy a house in Iowa. We definitely won’t be buying in Santa Clara County anytime soon.

Sometimes it just means finding the right deal. I was in Concord yesterday, stumbled into a new development and within 10 minutes the woman was THROWING the cutest 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath, brand new home at me. She offered me 6% as a realtor (twice the typical commission) and then took the $500K price and told me she thought it cold go at $425K. I was stunned.
Median prices have risen from the baby boomers and all their money and the fact that they know the truth – we have never had a downturn in the market where rates were low, too. So the prices have gone “up” because the higher end is selling…and the lower end is suffering.
If you two do want to buy, now would be the best time. You will look back in 2 years and be thankful you got in while it was low.
Taking off realtor hat (why DO I have it on at 530 am?)
Mere is right. This is the BEST time to buy because the houses will go up. Besides, you can buy a cheaper home in Iowa, but when you wake up each morning and look out the window, you’re in IOWA!!
I live in New York. We’d get a one bedroom for those prices. And it would be the size of a walk in closet.
I feel your pain.
Um hi. So depressing. Especially if you look at San Francisco too. I won’t own a home until I’m 80 at this rate…if even then.
You could come live in Wisconsin!!! For that price, you could get something pretty nice (and huge) around here, and let us live with you until we could afford something like that!
You think I moved to the “Great White North” for a better reason? We bought a house for less than the cost of a garage out other, but we do have to live on Michigan – so there are trade offs.
Why am I wondering where Solano is and why housing there is so damned cheap?
Cheap.
Riiiiight. How depressing.
