Sweet Jasper
I had my little man put to sleep today. His kidneys were failing and he had become extremely weak and thin. It was a heart-wrenching decision, but I had to do what was best for him. I had him for 13 of his 15 years. He came with me from Lexington, Kentucky, under the seat in front of me on the plane. He was my first pet, that was all mine (if it is ever possible to “own” a cat).
Jasper was such a sweet, affectionate kitty, and he tried to remain so even while he was sick. He was always trying to please me up until the end. I knew he was not well when he stopped greeting me at the front door, or sitting with me in the bathroom while I got ready for work.
This is supposed to be the best time of my life, with my wedding in just a couple of days, but today I am just too sad. I will miss him terribly. I am taking comfort in knowing that he is no longer hurting, but this was the hardest decision I have ever had to make.

I’m so sorry. I know how sad we were when we put Jenni’s cat, Toby, to sleep. People who don’t have pets don’t understand what a difficult thing this is. Take care of yourself. And have a wonderful wedding.
I’m so sorry Cathy. 🙁 Maybe he felt sure that it was OK for him to go, now that Matte is there to take care of you. He knew you would be OK. Hope you can take some little comfort in that.

I’m so sorry you had to lose your lifelong buddy, Jasper. I’ve got five of my own, and each is unique and important to me in their own right. Mine area all rescue kitties, and what is apparent to me is how worthwhile their lives have been. I can’t imagine life without them. I hope you can soon smile when you think of him, and one day another needy friend will bless you with his presence, I hope.

I agree with what Rachel said…I am terribly sorry for your loss. He had a wonderful and long life with you take comfort in that.
My condolences on your loss. It sounds like he had a great go of it, though — a nice, long, cushy life with someone who loved him very much. He won the kitty sweepstakes, and I’m sure he enjoyed it right to the end. It’s so sad, and so hard, but a life well lived is always worth celebrating, too.
