7 Days:Day 7 – Silver Slipper

And another season of 7 Days comes to an end. This round was really fun because I stretched my creativity muscle where I could. On Day 1 made it into Flickr’s Explore (YAY!), on Day 2 I tried something I never had done before, on Day 3 I posed like a football fan, on Day 4 I did five million handstands, on Day 5 I shot a happy accident, on Day 6 I headed out of town and shot the self-portrait with my iPhone, and on Day 7 I used my iPhone again to shoot myself on the Las Vegas Strip. I highly recommend the Best Camera app if you have an iPhone and like shooting with it. It’s pretty freaking cool.

I already can’t wait for the next session of 7 Days! Thanks for another fun run, guys!

I took this with my iPhone while Matte drove down the 101 freeway. Or, while he crawled down the freeway. Why is it always so trafficky?

When I come home I like to light a candle or two. I love the glow and the warmth of a candle and this one has a delicious tangerine scent. Right after I took this shot, I ate the candle with some fava beans and a nice chainti.

7 Days:Day 4 – Handstand #64

In case you were thinking of attempting a photo of yourself doing a handstand, just follow these simple instructions:

Change out of work clothes into jeans and Chuck Taylors, even though no one will be able to tell you are wearing Chuck Taylors
Optional: if you’re wearing a white shirt with a black bra, change into a bra of a less trampy color (I missed this step)
Set your camera on a stool because you are too lazy to get the tripod out of your trunk
Turn on your camera’s remote timer and grab the remote trigger thingee
Stand still and pose for a photo to set the focus
Press the remote and wait for the shutter to click. Don’t forget to smile!
Take note of where you are standing before walking to check the photo on your camera’s LCD
If you are in focus in the shot, your setup is done. If not, fiddle around with the camera a bit and go back to step number 5
Switch the camera to manual focus
Return to your original spot and press the remote button
Quickly do a handstand, flinging the remote across the lawn in the process
When you hear the shutter click, you can put your feet back on the ground
Run to the camera to check the shot
Notice that your handstand was not at all perpendicular to the ground
Walk back to the grass and realize you cannot find the remote
Crawl around on the grass looking for the remote, forgetting that grass makes you itch everywhere
Eventually find your remote about 5 feet away from where you did the handstand
Repeat from step number 10 just 62 more times
See? Easy!

7 Days:Day 3 – And I don’t even like football

…but my husband does and he LOVES the Green Bay Packers. Tonight they play against their division rivals, the Minnesota Vikings. Brett Favre is the Vikings’ starting quarterback.

Brett Favre used to play for the Packers, for, like, 85 years or something and a couple years ago he retired from the Packers and football.

Then he un-retired.

Then he retired again.

Aaaand un-retired again, to join of all teams, the Vikings?

Tonight is the first time the Packers play against their former quarterback. This is a big night in our house.

Speaking of house, I am missing House tonight to watch the game with Matte. Dr. Gregory House is hot. But so is Matte.

This morning, I was thinking about what to shoot for today’s 7 Days shot. I came up with bupkiss (or is it bubkiss?). Making or eating my breakfast? Been there, done that. Drying my hair? That’s so 2007. Nothing exciting is happening today. It’s Monday for Pete’s sake.

But then. Around 10:40 this morning. An earthquake hit. It was small, just 4.4 or so, but felt big. Because really, when you’re not accustomed to the earth moving under your feet (or chair in my case) any jolt feels big. No one was hurt; nothing was damaged. But my heart raced for about 30 minutes afterward.

The best part was that I finally had an idea for today’s photo. Duck and cover!

Sorry about that tremor this morning, my fellow Bay Area peeps. But I really needed an idea for my photo, so Mother Nature helped me out. Plus, after the gorgeous weekend we had, it was payback. Like rent. Or an earthquake tax. “You want sunny, warm days? Sure. But I’m gonna shake things up a bit to make you appreciate this weather.”

We do appreciate it, Mom! We do!

Time flies

I can’t believe it’s already almost Christmas. This year flew by. Why do they always do that?

This week I am participating in the 7 Days pool on Flickr once again. I love this pool because, unlike the 365 groups, where you have to shoot a self-portrait every single day, with 7 Days, I only have to do it for one week. As someone with self-diagnosed ADD, this is the perfect group for me. Plus, the entries are so creative, and each time around, new people join. I highly recommend you join to and shoot yourself for 7 days straight the next time the group starts. My previous entries are here, here, and here. During the Spring 2008 edition of 7 Days (the most recent one I participated in) we had just gotten Desmond and I was shooting photos of him constantly. I put him in one of my self-portraits because he was just too cute not to. So this round, I decided to include him again, so everyone could see how much he’s changed in just nine short months. He just had his first birthday on December 7, and has grown into a full-sized cat. Still a cutie, but much more uncooperative for photos. Quite unwieldy, that one.
